TUBULAR SKYLIGHT (SOLAR TUBES / SUN TUNNELS / SUN TUBES) QUESTIONS

HOW DOES A TUBULAR SKYLIGHT WORK?

Sunlight is captured through a dome on the roof and redirected through reflective tubing downward through a prismatic lens on the ceiling – thus brightening any dark living space.

WHAT BRAND OF TUBULAR SKYLIGHT DO YOU OFFER?

Our Tubular Skylight manufacturer is Natural Light Energy Systems in Peoria, Arizona.

WHAT IS YOUR LEAK WARRANTY? PRODUCT WARRANTY?

We offer a Limited Lifetime No-leak guarantee (void after reroofs) and a Lifetime Lifetime product warranty. Limited means only that the warranties do not transfer to new Homeowners. We can transfer the warranty as long as we get the new homeowner’s name and contact information.

WHY SHOULD I GO WITH YOUR BRAND?

Our Natural Light Solar Tubes are the brightest and longest lasting in the market. In contrast to other brands, we don’t use plastic lined Tubes that lose half of their brightness in 5 years. We also don’t use polycarbonate domes that yellow in 5 years or plastic ceiling brackets that weaken over time. We use real Silver tubes, High Impact domes that withstands golf balls and hail, and aluminum ceiling brackets that never break. We also offer a Lifetime No-leak guarantee. Most of our competitors only offer a 3 or 5 year leak warranty.

WHICH SIZES OF TUBULAR SKYLIGHTS DO YOU OFFER?

We offer 4 Tube diameter sizes: 10 inch round, 13 inch round, 18 inch round and 21 inch round (for commercial properties only).

HOW MUCH TUBING IS REQUIRED FOR AN INSTALLATION?

We provide 6 feet of tubing as part of your installation cost (three 24 inch sections). Most roofs only need 6 feet of tubing from the ceiling lens to the top of the flashing on the roof. If additional tubing is required to complete the installation, additional 2 foot sections can be purchased at an additional charge. Our installer can inform you how much tubing you will need at the installation.

HOW DO I KNOW WHICH SIZE I NEED?

  • The 10 inch Tubular Skylight covers an area of 10×10 Sq. Ft.
  • The 13 inch Tubular Skylight covers an area of 15×15 Sq. Ft.
  • The 18 inch Tubular Skylight covers an area of 20×20 Sq. Ft. (recommended for ceilings 15 to 20 feet high).
  • The 21 inch Tubular Skylight covers an area of 25×25 Sq. Ft. (Only recommended for Commercial applications with ceilings 20 feet or higher and truss/joist spans greater than 24 inches.

ARE THE TUBULAR SKYLIGHTS SEALED? DO I NEED TO DUST THEM IN THE FUTURE?

No the tubes are not sealed 100 percent since all skylights have to “breathe”. This allows the skylight to weep out any condensate that occurs with temperature differentials during the colder winter months when the home is warm inside. This being so, all Tubular skylights / Solar Tubes / Sun Tunnels will accumulate small amounts of dust on the inside of the ceiling lens through the years. It is recommended to remove and clean the ceiling lens every ten years.

DO I EVER NEED TO CLEAN THE DOME ON THE ROOF?

No. The Dome is shaped by design to be self-cleaning. With a smooth finish, dust will not excessively accumulate on the dome to block sunlight.

DO YOU HAVE A FLAT TUBULAR SKYLIGHT ROOF-DOME OPTION?

No. The roof dome must be lifted above the tiles and shingles and domes shaped that it might capture sunlight and redirect it into the tube. Our Natural Light roof domes are elevated about approximately 14 inches above the roof line with a smooth domed finish to prevent dust accumulation. In addition, our roof flashings that hold the roof-dome have an attractive bronze flashing to blend in with any roof tile or shingle color.

WHY SHOULD I GO WITH A TUBULAR SKYLIGHT INSTEAD OF A TRADITIONAL SKYLIGHT?

Tubular Skylights / Sun Tunnels / Solar Tubes were invented to prevent the problems associated with Traditional Skylights. It is well known that Traditional Skylights almost always leak and allow excessive heat into homes. With clear glass skylights, there is also the concern of the suns UV rays bleaching countertops, cabinets, furniture and flooring. Another concern is that any company who installs Traditional Skylights only offer a 3 year leak warranty on their installation. By contrast, Tubular Skylights don’t have ANY of these concerns. Tubular skylight flashings allow water to flush water away from the flashing quickly to prevent any damning and potential leaking. This design and our professional installation methods allows our company to offer you a Lifetime No-leak Guarantee on your Tubular Skylight installation. In addition, Tubular skylights block 99 percent of UV rays – thus preventing the bleaching of countertops, cabinets, furniture and flooring. Not only that, but our Tubular Skylights produce virtually no heat!

WHAT IF I CANNOT INSTALL A TUBULAR SKYLIGHT DUE TO OBSTRUCTIONS?

In the event that we are unable to install a Tubular Skylight due to obstructions in the attic, we offer a Daylighting alternative called Redilights. A Redilight is a round LED Light fixture connected by a wire to a small Solar Panel on the roof. The light will only work if the sun is on the Solar Panel. When the sun is covered by clouds the light will dim. When the sun goes down, the light goes off. Since we always carry Redilights on our van, we are able to offer this solution at any installation.

WHAT CEILING LENS TYPES DO YOU OFFER?

We offer two lens types (Prismatic or Frost white) in two styles (Domed and flat). The prismatic domed shaped lens is by far our most popular since it brings the most light into a home. The Frost white lens provides a calm light that is toned down. The Frost white lens is recommended for those with eye sensitivities or cornea problems. The domed shaped lens provides more light as it pushes more light peripherally. This is recommended for ceilings under 12 feet. The flat lens is recommended for vaulted or cathedral ceilings to maintain aesthetics. Our installer can install either lens type our customers prefer at the installation. There is no change in price for either lens type.

CAN I TONE THE LIGHT DOWN IF IT’S TOO BRIGHT?

Most of our customers love the light that comes from our Solar Tubes. There are a few people who are so used to living in a dark home that the light may seem initially brighter than they expect. Our manufacturer recommends allowing yourself to adjust to the light for at least one week after installation. If you feel that the light is too bright for your preference, we can add white softening filters to calm the light at the installation at no additional charge. Please ask the installer which lens type you prefer and any filters desired at the installation. We do charge $50 as a trip fee to the installer for return trips to tone down light from our Tubular Skylights. We strive to do our best to make you happy with your Tubular Skylight at the installation.

TRADITIONAL SKYLIGHT QUESTIONS

DO YOU INSTALL TRADITIONAL SKYLIGHTS?

We do not offer Traditional Skylights for new installations. We do however, offer traditional skylights for replacements of damaged or leaking skylights. Please see the answer to the above question, “Why should I go with a Tubular Skylight instead of a traditional skylight?”

WHAT TRADITIONAL SKYLIGHT OPTIONS DO YOU OFFER?

We offer glass and acrylic skylight options. Glass is over 20 degrees cooler than Acrylic and is offered at a slightly higher price than Acrylic Skylights. Acrylic Skylights however, block more of the sun’s harmful UV rays. UV rays coming through a clear glass skylight can bleach countertops, cabinets, furniture and flooring over the years and are definitely not recommended near expensive artwork or antiques. Tubular Skylights (aka Solar Tubes, Sun Tunnels and Sun Tubes) are the best daylighting option when light is desired near expensive artwork, antiques, and furniture.

WHAT IS THE WARRANTY ON A SKYLIGHT REPLACEMENT?

We offer a 10 year warranty against leaks and manufacturer defects and workmanship. Since we do not replace or repair Curbs or roofing, our warranty does not cover these kinds of leaks. If your curbing or roof is damaged near your existing skylight, our installer will make you aware of the damage and recommend proper repairs. If the damage in your skylight curb or roof is minor, our installer can provide a quote for the repairs and complete the work as we perform the replacement. You are also free to hire a roofer of your choice to perform the repairs.

DO YOU OFFER THE OPTION TO CONVERT A TRADITIONAL SKYLIGHT TO A TUBULAR SKYLIGHT?

No. The labor and materials involved in a skylight conversion are very costly and time consuming (typically about $1200 in addition to the cost of the Solar Tube).

SOLAR ATTIC FAN QUESTIONS

HOW DOES A SOLAR ATTIC FAN WORK?

A Solar Attic fan works by drawing fresh air into the attic from your existing passive vents (Gables, Ridge vents, Eave Vents, O’hagin Vents) and expelling the built-up heat during the hot Summer months – thus extending the life of your roof and reducing the load on your AC System.

WHAT BRAND OF SOLAR ATTIC FAN DO YOU OFFER?

Our Solar Attic Fan manufacturer is Natural Light Energy Systems in Peoria, Arizona.

WHAT IS THE WARRANTY ON YOUR SOLAR ATTIC FANS? LEAK WARRANTY?

GoGreen Daylight Systems offers a Limited Lifetime Warranty on the entire fan and a Limited Lifetime No-leak guarantee (void after reroofs). Limited only means that the warranty doesn’t transfer to new home owners. We can transfer the warranty as long as we get the new homeowner’s name and contact information.

WHAT OPTIONS OF SOLAR ATTIC FANS DO YOU OFFER?

We offer the 32 Watt and 48 Watt Solar Attic Fans in both roof mounted and gable mounted options (Price is the same for Gable or roof-mounted options).

HOW DO I KNOW WHICH WATTAGE OF SOLAR ATTIC FAN I NEED?

The recommended Wattage is based on the square footage of your home. A 32 Watt Solar Attic fan can fully vent an attic of a home with up to 2200 sq. ft. (up to 1560 cfms). A 48 Watt Fan can fully vent an attic of a home with up to 2,825 sq. ft. (up to 1881 cfms). For attics of homes with up to 3500 sq. ft., we recommend two 32 Watt attic fans. For attics of homes with up to 4000 sq. ft., we recommend two 48 Watt attic fans. For homes with more than 4000 sq. ft., three 48 Watt attic fans are recommended.

HOW MUCH HEAT DOES A SOLAR ATTIC FAN REMOVE FROM AN ATTIC?

Our Attic fans can remove up to 25 degrees of built-up heat – thus taking a big load off of your AC system. Since attic temperatures can reach up to 170 degrees during the hot summer months in Arizona (which can shorten the life span of your roof), attic fans are the best option for helping cool off your home. It’s also important to ensure that your home’s attic insulation is adequate. Building code recommends at least R-38 blown insulation. This R Value can be exceeded for added benefit but studies show that values above R-50 provides no added insulation benefits.

WHY SHOULD I CHOOSE YOUR BRAND OF SOLAR ATTIC FAN?

Our Natural Light Solar Attic Fans are the most durable in the Market. Sporting the latest Solar Cell technology, commercial grade aluminum components, 5 blade fan, pest screen, and rust-resistant powder-coating housing, no other brand compares. With a professional installation, a lifetime No-Leak Guarantee, and lifetime warranty, Gogreen Daylight Systems is a sure bet for the best installation of the best Solar Attic fan.

DOES IT CONNECT TO THE ELECTRICAL PANEL ON THE HOME?

No. The Attic and Garage Fans are completely Solar and runs completely on the energy from the sun.

DOES THE SOLAR ATTIC FAN RUN AT NIGHT AS WELL AS THE DAY?

No. The Attic fan removes the sun’s radiant heat from the attic during the day, and since the sun’s heat dissipates outward after sunset, there is no need for the fan to run continually (which shortens the Fan motor’s lifespan). In addition, our roof-mounted Attic Fan flashings are designed to offer passive venting of residual heat in the attic after sunset.

DO YOU OFFER THERMOSTATS FOR YOUR SOLAR ATTIC FANS? HOW DO THEY WORK? DO I NEED ONE?

Yes. Our Thermostats are connected directly to the fan and are self-automated to turn the fan on when attic temperatures reach 80 degrees and shut off at 70 degrees. Thermostats are not recommended for Attic fans on Homes in colder climates where ice damning occurs. In colder climates, our Solar Attic fans prevent ice damning and the associated water damage that results. Thermostats are recommended in dry climates like Phoenix, Arizona where snowfall does not occur. Since moisture is minimal during the Winter, the Attic fan does not need to run. During Arizona winters the Thermostat will prevent the fan from running during which will ultimately extend the life of the Attic fan.

WHY DO I NEED AN ATTIC FAN IF I ALREADY HAVE ROOF VENTS?

Your home’s roof vents provide passive venting which offers little to no benefit during the hot summer days when the sun’s radiant heat is pushing more and more heat into your attic by the minute. A motorized fan will provide the pressure needed to drive out excess heat during the day. Passive vents are helpful after the sun sets when the built-up heat is now able to flow outward through the vents without the addition of more heat from the sun into the attic. In addition, our Attic fans also serve as an additional passive vent after the sun sets.

WHAT TYPE OF ROOF CAN A SOLAR ATTIC/GARAGE FAN BE INSTALLED ON?

Natural Light Solar Attic fans can be installed on almost any roof type – commercial or residential. For tile roofs, a tile skirt will be required.

SOLAR GARAGE FANS QUESTIONS

HOW DOES A SOLAR GARAGE FAN WORK?

Solar Garage Fans consist of a 48 Watt solar attic fan with a vent kit attached to the ceiling of the garage. This vent kit dedicates the solar attic fan completely to the garage (it will ventilate the garage only, not the attic). The Garage fan works just like the attic fan in that it draws in fresh air from the outside through existing vents. Although many garages don’t have existing vents, we can install them for an additional charge. If your home has a gas water heater, you will most likely have two 16”x9” vents in one of your garage walls (one high and one low). This will be sufficient to provide venting for the Garage fan.

WHAT IF I DON'T HAVE EXISTING VENTS IN THE WALLS OF MY GARAGE?

We can install either two 12”x6” vents in the garage door or one 14×14 inch vent in the wall. Either option contains a pest screen to keep the critters out. The vents we provide are also paintable.

HOW MUCH HEAT DOES A SOLAR GARAGE VENT REMOVE?

Temperatures in a garage in Arizona can exceed up to 150 degrees during the hot summer months. Our Garage fans can remove up to 25 degrees of built-up heat.

DO YOU OFFER THERMOSTATS FOR GARAGE FANS?

Yes. Since a garage fan is not needed in the Arizona winters, a thermostat is recommended to extend the life of the garage fan.

REDILIGHT QUESTIONS

WHAT IS A REDILIGHT? HOW DOES IT WORK?

A Redilight is a round LED Light fixture connected by a wire to a small Solar Panel on the roof. The light will only work if the sun is on the Solar Panel. When the sun is covered by clouds the light will dim. When the sun goes down, the light goes off. Since we always carry Redilights on our van, we are able to offer this solution at any installation. For more information, please visit Redilightusa.com.

CAN REDILIGHTS WORK AT NIGHT?

Although there is an option available to connect the Redilights to the electrical panel as a back-up power source when the sun goes down, it is not available at this time. We are not sure when this option will be available.

WHAT SIZES/WATTAGES OF REDILIGHTS DO YOU OFFER?

8 inch round (12 Watts) and 13 inch round (24 Watts). These are offered with either of two Solar Panels One panel is 24 Watts and the other is 48 Watts. They are sold as a kit which includes one of these Solar panels and a number of lights with the wattage totaling the Wattage of the Solar Panel used. For example, since one 8 inch Redilight requires 12 Watts of electricity, one 24 Watt Solar Panel can accommodate two 8 inch Redilights. A 48 Watt Solar Panel will accommodate four 8 inch Redilights. One 13 inch Redilight requires 24 Watts of electricity. So one 24 Watt solar panel will accommodate only one 13 inch Redilight. A 48 Watt solar panel will accommodate two 13 inch Redilights.

WHAT SIZE REDILIGHTS DO I NEED?

Our Redilights are equivalent in light output to a Tubular Skylight. So an 8 inch Redilight is comparable to a 10 inch Tubular Skylight and is best for bathrooms, hallways, closets and small laundry rooms (Any room up to 10×10 sq. ft.) A 13 inch Redilight is equivalent in light output to a 13 inch Tubular Skylight and is recommended for kitchens, dining rooms, family rooms, large walk-in closets, large master bathrooms, and large laundry rooms (Any room up to 15×15 sq. ft.).

WHAT IS THE WARRANTY ON REDILIGHTS? LEAK WARRANTY?

Redilights come with a 7 Year limited warranty on Redilight Skyfixtures (solar LED Light fittings). Warranty applies to Drivers, accessories, Remote Control handset, and Solar Panels. The warranty period starts from the date of the purchase of the Product. Redilight USA warrants that each product will be free from defects in material and workmanship. Your installation by Gogreen Daylight Systems LLC is warrantied against leaks for a limited lifetime (void after reroofs). Limited means that warranties do not transfer to new homeowners unless we get their name and contact information.

HOW WILL THE INSTALLATION AFFECT THE INTEGRITY OF MY ROOF?

Redilight installation is noninvasive. The Solar Panel is attached to the roof with just a few screws which are easily sealable. In addition, there is one small hole drilled for the wire to pass through. This will be located under a roof tile or shingle and is then sealed.

HOW LONG WILL A REDILIGHT FIXTURE LAST?

Redilight Skyfixtures offer over 50,000 hours of light usage.

HOW WELL DO REDILIGHTS REPRESENT NATURAL DAYLIGHT?

Redilight LEDS have a color rendering index of 82 out of 100. Any Color Rendering Index (CRI) number above 80 is considered good.
